The Disabilities Board of Charleston County is part of a state-wide network of county Disabilities and Special Needs Boards created by the SC Legislature.  Local Boards contract with the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (SCDDSN) to provide services and supports to people with mental retardation, autism, head and spinal cord injuries, and related disabilities.  DBCC serves over 1500 individuals with mental retardation, autism, and related disabilities who reside in Charleston County, and many individuals with head and spinal cord injuries who reside in Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester and Colleton counties.
Services and supports that are available through the Disabilities Board of Charleston County include early intervention, service coordination, child services at The Charles Webb Center, vocational and non-vocational day programs, and residential services.  Through SCDDSN’s Home and Community Based Waiver (HCBW) administered through DBCC, Medicaid funding for a wide variety of supportive services may be available to qualified individuals.
